Making the Calculator Work in the Classroom
Teaching with Calculators recently interviewed Gene Wright, the chief financial officer for a fast-growing, Nashville-based start-up company, about effective ways to use the calculator when teaching business math courses.

Wright knows first hand about calculators in the classroom. He’s also a teacher and textbook author who has been teaching business classes for 15 years at Lipscomb University in Nashville. His textbook, Quantitative Analysis for Business: The Time Value of Money and Basic Business Statistics Using a Business Calculator, 3rd Edition, is available from Amazon.com and other booksellers.
Wright is a graduate of Vanderbilt University's Owen School of Management with an MBA in finance. He has worked for Accenture designing financial systems, for a hospital management company designing a flexible budgeting system, for an actuary designing pension termination and defined contribution systems for a large insurance company as an internal consultant to senior management. Wright also is an instructor for HP Calculator’s Virtual Classrooms.

HP 33s Creates a Publishing Frenzy
The popularity of the HP 33s scientific calculator has resulted in several new books that can help students to prepare and take their professional exams using the HP 33s. Not only is the HP 33s one of the most powerful programmable scientific calculators, it is also HP’s most affordable RPN entry model.

Preferred by many engineers, scientists and students for its efficiency, RPN – which stands for Reverse Polish Notation – is HP’s exclusive time-saving, consistent method for entering and solving mathematical problems.
The HP 33s calculator has a fast processor, a two-line display, and programmability. Because it does not include text or communication capabilities it is has been approved by many testing bodies for professional examinations. Students have found that the 33s has the power and capabilities to take them through science, engineering and surveying courses and on through the qualification exams into their professions.
