Effective with the release of HP-UX 11i in December 2000, Hewlett-Packard has improved the HP-UX Operating System licensing model. The license to use an HP-UX system is no longer based on a fixed number of users that the system will allow to be logged in concurrently. The new license model permits the use of the licensed system by an unlimited number of users simultaneously.
The unlimited user license (UUL) replaces the many license options that were based on a user count and have been a part of HP-UX since its origin. HP has eliminated the restrictive, default 2-User configuration, and also eliminated the costly 8-User and 32-User upgrades. As an integral part of HP-UX 11i, HP-UX now provides a single license class, the unlimited user license, which permits an unlimited number of concurrent users on the licensed system. It is delivered by default with all HP-UX 11i operating environments, and applies to HP workstations, technical servers, and enterprise servers.
The unlimited user license covers not only HP-UX 11i, but it also permits the use of earlier releases. The UUL can be installed as an upgrade on existing HP-UX 10.20 and HP-UX 11.0 systems. It is available at no additional cost to customers who have a current support contract.
