Hewlett Packard encourages all HP-UX 10.20 users to proceed with their transition to either HP-UX 11i or HP-UX 11.0. There are several reasons why you would want to migrate to HP-UX 11:

  • HP-UX 11 is the long term platform of choice for PA-RISC and the new IA-64 platforms
  • HP-UX 11i is the delivery stream where new HP-UX development is focused
  • there are new features that are available only on HP-UX 11i or 11.0
  • HP-UX 11 delivers full 64-bit capability in PA-8X00 based systems
  • many of the 32-bit systems that currently support HP-UX 10.20 also support HP-UX 11
  • HP-UX 11 supports execution of 32-bit applications, even when running on a 64-bit system
  • applications currently running on HP-UX 10.20 will, if they conform to compatibility standards, run without modification on HP-UX 11

There are also several reasons NOT to remain on HP-UX 10.20:
  • HP-UX 10.20 will no longer be available for purchase after June 30, 2002
  • the december 1999 ACE release is the last planned ACE release for HP-UX 10.20
  • no new features will be developed for HP-UX 10.20
  • some HP hardware lines already do not support HP-UX 10.20
  • HP PA-8700 based systems, available in 2001, will not support HP-UX 10.20
  • there are no plans to support new graphics or interface boards on HP-UX 10.20

To assist you in planning your move to HP-UX 11.X, please read the HP-UX 11.X Statement on Application Binary Compatibility.
